1)
а) Нейтральная просьба выражается общим вопросом (см. Yes-No question) с модальным глаголом will, would, can или could. Употребление would и could делает просьбу более вежливой.

Can you give me the book? — Не дашь мне книгу?

Could you tell me how to get to the theatre? — Не могли бы вы сказать, как добраться до театра?

Could you help me? — Не могли бы вы помочь мне?

Will you please close the window? — Ты не закроешь окно?

Will you pass me the salt? — Не передадите мне соль?

Would you please count your change? — Вы не могли бы пересчитать сдачу?

б) Более официальными формами выражения просьбы служат конструкции Do/Would you mind + ing-form, Would you like + to-infinitive

Would you mind telling Rosanna that I meant no unkindness? — Вы не могли бы передать Розанне, что я не имел в виду ничего плохого?

Would you like to listen to me for a few minutes? — Вы не могли бы отвлечься на несколько минут и выслушать меня?

в) Употребление слов possibly - может быть, please - пожалуйста делает просьбу более вежливой.

Could you possibly explain it to me? — Может быть, вы мне это объясните?

г) Вежливая просьба может быть также выражена с помощью конструкций You couldn't + bare infinitive ... , could you? и I wonder if you could/would + bare infinitive

You couldn't tell me the time, could you? — Вы не подскажете, который час?

I wonder if you would take a moment to talk to us — Может, немного поговоришь с нами?

2) Чтобы попросить какую-нибудь вещь, используют обороты Could I have ...?, Can I have ...?, May I have ...?. Употребление may делает просьбу более официальной.

Can I have a napkin, please? — Салфетку мне не дадите?

Could I have these pencils? — Не дадите ли мне эти карандаши? (обращение к продавщице).

3) Чтобы вежливо выразить свое желание и тем самым, возможно, высказать просьбу, используют конструкции I would like = I'd like. Просьба, выраженная конструкцией I wish you would (см. wish + that - clause, 2) имеет оттенок раздражения.

I would like a cup of coffee — Я бы хотел чашку кофе.

I'd like to get some information about theatres — Я бы хотел получить некоторые сведения о театрах.

I wish you'd be quiet — Пожалуйста, тише!

4) В отличие от русского языка, для выражения вежливой просьбы в английском языке не используются вопросительные предложения с отрицанием - см. Negative question, 2в.
